Jamie Carragher has backed Arsenal to have solved their issues on the left flank after being impressed by a recent acquisition.
The former Liverpool player offered glowing assessment of new arrival Christos Tzolis following the 3-0 victory against Coventry City, where the Greek international supplied the assist for Bukayo Saka’s strike.
The winger arrived from Club Brugge in a deal worth £34million as Arsenal aim to defend their Premier League title and improve on their Champions League performance from last season.
Many supporters expected Tzolis to fill the void left by Leandro Trossard, who departed for Besiktas after contributing to the club’s first top-flight championship in over twenty years.
However, the Greek attacker has demonstrated his quality throughout pre-season and indicated in the Community Shield triumph over Manchester City that he intends to be a key player.
The north London club remain in the market for additional attacking options and were previously credited with interest in Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior before the Brazilian committed his future to the Spanish giants.
Arsenal continue searching for greater creativity and goal threat in the final third, having also been associated with Julian Alvarez, Bradley Barcola and Kenan Yildiz.
All three mentioned players would require substantial transfer fees, though Carragher suggested Arsenal may have already addressed their need for goals and assists from that position.
Following Arsenal’s victory over Coventry, Carragher expressed on Sky Sports his view that Tzolis had performed excellently on his league debut and represented a significant acquisition for the club.
Mikel Arteta also praised the newcomer after the match against Coventry, commenting on the energy the player brings despite only joining the squad a few weeks ago. The Spanish manager noted the player’s recent performances have been outstanding and highlighted the direct, incisive nature of his play, mentioning his ability to create various attacking actions in the final third. Arteta expressed satisfaction with the contribution and acknowledged the difficulty of the opening stages against a well-prepared opponent, stating he had been highly impressed with what he had observed so far.
