Arsenal are in advanced negotiations to secure three academy recruits. The north London side look poised to capture Manchester United prospects Habeeb Ogunneye and James Scanlon, alongside Blackburn Rovers starlet Igor Tyjon, with sell-on provisions included in each deal.
The club has cultivated exceptional youth talent, with multiple emerging players already breaking into the senior squad in recent years. Max Dowman, Ethan Nwaneri and Marli Salmon are among those to have featured for Mikel Arteta’s side.
While academies traditionally focus on promoting players to the senior team, the Premier League’s Elite Player Performance Plan also emphasises developing talent capable of building successful careers and generating transfer revenue.
Chelsea have led the way among top-flight rivals in this regard, having amassed more than £400million from selling homegrown products. Any sale of a youth-trained player represents pure profit under the previous profit and sustainability regulations, making such transactions particularly valuable financially.
According to reports from The Athletic, Ogunneye, a 20-year-old full-back, has completed a medical ahead of a proposed switch from Old Trafford.
The Londoners are also reportedly near to completing a deal for 19-year-old Red Devils winger Scanlon. Both transfers are anticipated to be on free transfers, with substantial sell-on clauses going to the Manchester club.
Both emerging talents have connections to Arsenal’s newly appointed under-21s head coach David Horseman, who previously spent four months working in United’s academy setup.
