Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta remained tight-lipped when questioned about Ezri Konsa’s potential switch to the Emirates from Aston Villa, though he hinted at thrilling times ahead for fans.
The club have reached a £51million agreement with Unai Emery’s outfit to secure the England defender’s signature, with a medical examination scheduled at the club’s London base later today.
The 28-year-old has been a constant presence since joining Villa Park seven years ago, racking up 286 matches for the club.
Konsa featured regularly in Thomas Tuchel’s England setup at the global tournament and represented Arteta’s primary target to reinforce the club’s defensive options.
In his opening Premier League pre-match press conference of the campaign, with Arsenal preparing to face Frank Lampard’s freshly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates on Friday evening, Arteta fielded questions about defensive additions.

He noted that the information conveyed may not always be welcome, but emphasised that transparency helps everyone make improved choices. He described these discussions as consistently difficult, particularly when a player feels they no longer fit in.
Concerning Myles Lewis-Skelly’s future at the club, with reports suggesting approaches were made to Chelsea and Manchester United, Arteta expressed full confidence the youngster would still be an Arsenal player when the transfer window closes. When asked directly about this, his response was unequivocal: absolutely certain.
On the subject of transfer speculation and the extensive media coverage surrounding it, Arteta stated that honestly, such noise does not reach him, his coaching staff, or even his children with questions about incoming signings. However, he noted that discussions with Andrea and the board continue to monitor the situation.
