Reports indicate Arsenal have been exploring the possibility of securing a highly regarded talent spotter at the Emirates. Berta will collaborate directly with Arsenal’s principal scout. The north London club faces a substantial financial outlay if they hope to lure Sebastian Krug away from Borussia Dortmund, with the Premier League champions eager to bring him in to strengthen their position domestically and make inroads in European competition.
Krug has earned considerable praise across the continent for his scouting work in Germany, playing a pivotal role in bringing both Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham to Signal Iduna Park. Sky in Germany report that discussions have already taken place in the capital regarding a potential switch, with Arsenal determined to finalise the appointment and integrate him into their setup alongside sporting director Andrea Berta.
Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have also been named as interested parties, but Arsenal must also contend with Borussia Dortmund’s resolve to retain their key personnel. Sources suggest the German club have yet to receive official notification of any approach, leaving them in a relaxed state. Any potential suitors would need to propose an extraordinarily high sum to persuade Dortmund to sanction Krug’s departure.
Arsenal previously successfully recruited Sven Mislintat from the same club in 201 for £1.8 million. The German scout remained at the Emirates until February 2019 and was involved in transfers that brought Bernd Leno, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Matteo Guendouzi, and Konstantinos Mavropanos to the club. Mislintat subsequently held sporting and technical director positions at Stuttgart and Ajax before returning to Dortmund as technical director and head of scouting in 2024. He most recently served as sporting chief executive at Fortuna Dusseldorf but departed that role this summer.
For Arsenal, the priority now lies with concluding the transfer window on a strong note as they seek to retain their Premier League crown. The Gunners have already completed permanent signings for Piero Hincapie, Illan Meslier, Christos Tzolis and Bruno Guimaraes.
