Arsenal’s outstanding young talent Max Dowman has broken his silence following his departure from education.
The teenager has now shifted his complete attention to his football career after collecting his GCSE qualifications and bidding farewell to full-time schooling.
The Arsenal prodigy sat out the final week of training last term to focus on his examinations before achieving the distinction of becoming the youngest player in history to start a Premier League fixture and subsequently claiming a top-flight championship medal at just 16 years and 144 days old.
During March, he etched his name into the record books as the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history following his remarkable strike against Everton. Dowman’s involvement grew increasingly significant under Mikel Arteta’s management as he approached the completion of his secondary school studies, which he has now collected results for.
It remains undisclosed how he performed, though Brentwood School published a photograph of the young player beaming while holding his results envelope. In the school’s end-of-term review following GCSE completion, they described Dowman as having just finished an extraordinary year in which he shattered numerous records impossible to enumerate there, including becoming the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history, and that Max D finished his GCSEs as he transitioned definitively into elite professional football with Arsenal FC.
Meanwhile, Dowman discussed the upcoming chapter in his career and expressed that he wanted to take that moment to express sincere gratitude to Brentwood School for all the support provided during his time there. He noted that while his educational journey concludes earlier than anticipated as he pursues his football ambitions, he will forever be deeply thankful for the backing offered by the institution and its staff, and that the knowledge gained, both in sporting and academic contexts, will remain with him as he progresses to this new phase.
He went on to say that particular appreciation goes to Mrs Crowley, Mr Gamester and Miss Antonello for their generosity, encouragement and assistance throughout his years at Brentwood. He stated that he will perpetually value the positive impact they have had on his time there, and that he departs with treasured recollections and bonds that he shall always hold dear. He expressed that he eagerly anticipates what lies ahead, though he shall perpetually remember his Brentwood years with immense pride and thankfulness.
Dowman is expected to feature in the squad when Arsenal launch their title defence against Coventry City on Friday evening. Nevertheless, he continues to be prohibited from using the main changing facilities alongside his fellow players because of his age.
Premier League regulations stipulate that any individual below 18 must utilise alternative changing arrangements separate from the primary squad for both training sessions and competitive matches. The winger may access the changing area for tactical briefings but must wait until late 2027 before being permitted to fully participate in post-match festivities.
