The Manchester City striker has emerged as a leading transfer target for Arsenal, though there has been a fresh development in the ongoing pursuit.
The Argentine forward has attracted significant interest from the north London club during this transfer window. Sources in Spain have indicated that Arsenal’s manager has been discussing a potential switch to the Emirates with the Atletico Madrid player.
Intelligence from the Spanish capital suggests the South American international would consider a move to Arsenal. He was omitted from Atletico’s opening La Liga fixture versus Malaga, with the club’s coach explaining that the player was not mentally prepared for competition.
Barcelona has also expressed interest in the forward, though Atletico have shown unwillingness to negotiate with the Catalan side. Despite the Nou Camp reportedly being his preferred destination, a transfer to Arsenal remains a viable option.
Spanish outlet Diario AS has reported that the Arsenal manager has been in dialogue with the player regarding a potential switch to north London this summer. The forward was subjected to whistles from his own supporters during Atletico’s first league match of the new season.
Following the abuse directed at the player, the Atletico coach remarked that the club consistently strives to secure the best possible resources and expressed hope of assembling the strongest possible squad before the transfer window closes.
The Arsenal manager has already made significant additions to his squad this season. Ezri Konsa became the latest acquisition, arriving in a £51million deal from Aston Villa.
The club’s marquee signing of the summer was Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes for £75million. Piero Hincapie and Christos Tzolis were also incorporated into the squad, with Hincapie completing a permanent transfer from Bayer Leverkusen after spending the previous campaign on loan in north London.
Arsenal are aiming to defend their Premier League crown and secure Champions League glory this term.
Prior to Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Coventry City in their opening match of their title defence, the manager emphasised that the club continues to pursue additional signings.
Regarding Konsa’s arrival, the manager stated that the squad required another defender, having possessed only seven players in that position, which proved insufficient. He highlighted two long-term injuries affecting the defensive line and stressed the desire to recruit someone offering different attributes to existing players. He emphasised the importance of experience in that position given the demands of the league and expressed confidence that Konsa brings qualities the team required.
Arsenal commenced their campaign positively, with goals from Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard earning a comfortable 3-0 triumph over Coventry at the Emirates Stadium.
