Arsenal have experienced a relatively uneventful summer transfer period compared to Manchester City, with their championship rivals authorising four significant transfers within the past week.
Omar Marmoush is departing Manchester City for Tottenham, while Arsenal’s Premier League competitors are clearing three additional major sales. Manchester City are prepared to acquire Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille as they seek to compete with Arsenal for the league championship. A €100million (£85.6 million) agreement for the Moroccan international will be financed through the departures of Nico Gonzalez, Savinho and Omar Marmoush.
The latter two players are heading to Tottenham, with Marmoush initially moving on loan before completing a permanent £50m switch pending specific conditions. Savinho has cost the north London club £75m plus an additional £10m in performance-related payments, with Palmeiras forward Allan anticipated to arrive as his replacement for considerably less than half that amount.
New manager Enzo Maresca has already approved Rodri’s transfer to Barcelona, with Elliot Anderson lined up to fill that void. Bouaddi is now set to arrive at the Etihad Stadium, while Newcastle United progress in discussions for Gonzalez.
City consider him worth £50m, which represents what they paid Porto to acquire him less than 18 months ago. The departures of Savinho, Marmoush and Gonzalez could generate up to £185m for City, with slightly under half that amount going to Lille for Bouaddi, leaving additional resources for further recruitment.
Although these are three supplementary players leaving the club, it further demonstrates the restructuring underway under Maresca following Pep Guardiola’s exit after ten years at the helm.
Early challenges for the new manager have been evident in the opening fortnight of the campaign, with Arsenal defeating them 3-0 in the Community Shield. The following Sunday, Bournemouth took an early lead at City’s home ground, but they managed a late turnaround courtesy of Marc Guehi and Josko Gvardiol.
Arsenal, meanwhile, secured a comfortable victory against newly-promoted Coventry City on Friday evening. Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard all found the net, with the captain appearing to return to his best form.

Before the match, Ezri Konsa was officially announced as the club’s fifth summer arrival following permanent signings of Piero Hincapie, Illan Meslier, Bruno Guimaraes and Christos Tzolis.
The latter featured from the start on the left flank following Leandro Trossard’s departure, while Gabriel Martinelli was absent from the matchday squad. Sources indicate that Al Hilal are negotiating with Arsenal regarding Martinelli, who would be willing to move to the Saudi Pro League.
This could potentially create an opportunity for Julian Alvarez to arrive from Atletico Madrid, with the Argentine very much of interest to Arsenal. He returned to competitive action over the weekend and was met with jeers from the home supporters, further raising questions about his long-term prospects in the Spanish capital.
